Graduate Executive Committee Overview

The Graduate Executive Committee advises the Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Research on matters related to graduate education. Its work includes:

• Graduate curriculum (new programs, course changes, revisions).
• Policies and procedures for recruitment, admissions, progression, retention, and graduation.
• The Graduate Student Research Symposium.
• Thesis and dissertation guidelines.
• Graduate assistantships.
• Graduate faculty status.
• Other issues related to graduate-level programs.

The Associate Provost oversees graduate programs in collaboration with academic deans, department heads, graduate program directors, and the Graduate Executive Committee. Together, they make recommendations to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Committee Membership

• One graduate faculty representative from each department offering a graduate degree program.
• One graduate faculty representative for all affiliated departments (departments that teach graduate courses but do not offer graduate programs).
• Two at-large members.

All members must hold current graduate faculty status.

Committee Work

The committee meets during the academic year to review:

• Proposals for curriculum changes.
• New or revised graduate courses.
• New degree programs.

Once approved, proposals are then forwarded to the Academic Committee for review, then to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee.
